Last week was American Thanksgiving and for the first time in four years, I made the entire traditional meal complete with full turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, green beans, corn casserole, pumpkin AND pecan pie. We invited some Danish-American friends and even watched some American football. And while no one had work off or were out of school, it was lovely to embrace the tradition again.
When you live abroad, it isn’t always easy to recreate those special dishes and rituals that make a holiday feel like home. Especially when the adopted country doesn’t celebrate that day! But we are thankful for this experience of living in Denmark and that I could find everything I needed to complete my recipes this year! I am also truly thankful for this amazing community of inspiring travel writers, bloggers and photographers that share every week with Faraway Files. Cheers to you! In a little over a year, the Faraway Files travel blog community has shared stories, images and tips from over one hundred countries. 165 bloggers from the opposite ends of the earth have contributed, commented, inspired and informed. As your hosts, Clare, Katy and I have enjoyed getting to know individuals in this community in person and online. Today, we are very excited to introduce two of these people to you. If you are a Faraway File reader or contributor, you may have already read posts from our new co-hosts. Drum roll please…
We are happy to introduce two new Faraway Files co-hosts who will be joining our merry band of pranksters, I mean bloggers. Please welcome Hilary from Hilary Style and Corey from Fifi + Hop. Clare and I will be partnering with Hilary and Corey going forward. Katy will continue to host and contribute and engage after she is all moved in and settled in new digs around the world. She’s headed back to Australia! I personally can’t wait to see that side of the globe from her perspective. Go wish her best of luck for a smooth transition and joyful re-entry!
We are excited to start this new evolution of Faraway Files. To start us off? Hilary and I are your happy hosts today. Link up here, but definitely go meet Hilary if you haven’t already! She loves street art, the open road (sometimes) and knows ALL the cool places in Los Angeles, California – her adopted hometown. But first, I’m gonna go ahead give a mountainous amount of love to these favorite posts from last week’s link up. Hint hint. They all about peaks this week.
Faraway Files Favorites Week #53
I am all about mooning over mountains after last week’s plethora of posts featuring pristine peaks. Faraway Files newcomer Jacki who blogs at Hit the Road Jacki shared a jaw-droppingly epic hike in the Rocky Mountain National Park. I am smitten and need to do this. Instantly. Thanks Jacki!
And Lorelei of California Globetrotter took me back. To a place that imprinted on us many many years ago. Ebenalp and the Appenzeller region of Switzerland has one of the most amazing places we have ever stayed in. The Berggasthaus Aescher only offers up its views and great food these days, but see why the region has so much to offer. Heart strings officially tugged.
From Switzerland to Austria, take me here now too. Thanks to Trish of Mums Gone To I now want to take Option C and see all of this! Wondering what Option A and B were? Traipse on over to her post and she’ll share. But I think you’ll only choose C after gawking, possibly with a little drool at this stunning place. Mountain loungers? Yes! And… please?!
And lastly, check out this magical trail in the Hohe Tauern National Park, also in Austria. Emma from A Bavarian Sojourn traipses down this magically beautiful trail finding gnomes and sparkles amidst serious amounts of swoon-worthy scenery.
Today I’m sharing Kefalonia, a mountainous and lush island beauty in Greece. Come see what you should kick it there off-season. And please – go say hej hej to Hilary! She’s going to be fantastisk!
FARAWAY FILES TRAVEL BLOG COMMUNITY LINKUP #54
WANT TO JOIN IN?
Jump in! The water is fine! Faraway Files is a creative community of travel bloggers who inspire, engage and share each other’s posts. All participating hosts will read and comment on every post that participates in the spirit of the link up. We will also share them on social media too. Each week we’ll choose our favorite posts and highlight them on our blogs and social media channels using #FarawayFiles.
HOW IT WORKS:
Link up one travel-related post and add the Faraway Files badge onto the post or your blog (code below) or link back to the hosts.
The link-up will go live every Thursday at 8 am UK time (9 am, CET) until midnight on Friday. It will alternate between Untold Morsels, Suitcases and Sandcastles, and Oregon Girl around the World.
Link ups work best if everyone engages so please comment on each of the hosts’ posts and at least two others that take your fancy.

FIFTY-TWO WEEKS OF SHARING TRAVEL STORIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD
I’ve been away. Far away. In vastly different directions. In different parts of the world. It has been wonderful exploring both with family and without. For our fall break, we spent 10 days in Greece between Athens and the stunning Ionian island of Kefalonia. We thought Athens was awesome. Especially in October. I’ll be sharing more on the blog soon. Stay tuned.
You know where else is an amazing place to visit in Fall? The Big Apple. New York City. Do you recall? Central Park in fall? Oooh. I will. Now. Just back from 5 days reunion with college friends playing tourists in town. It was fantastisk. My cheeks are still aching from all the belly laughing.
So where have you been? Care to share? With no travel plans currently on the books, I need some new inspiration. Add a link! Read a few. Add your Faraway File. This week I’m sharing a fun family activity on the East Coast of the United States. Come to Cape Cod she said. And when there – take your kids out crabbing. For blue crab. A perfect afternoon outside. Cheers from Copenhagen! Hej hej for now.
1 YEAR SHARING TRAVEL STORIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Tillykke! As the Danes say. Congratulations travel peeps! It’s our birthday. It’s our birthday. We’re gonna party like it’s our birthday. Wow. What a fun community of travel writers and bloggers and photographers has come together to share unique and beautiful corners all over the world. We’ve seen posts from 100 countries! Take a look at the map!
You’ve taken us scuba diving and zip lining and hiking to volcanoes. We been off-roading and kayaking and canoeing and skiing. You’ve shown us monkeys, puffins, gorillas, whales and kangaroos too. From little villages to small towns to supremely grand cities, we’ve seen them all. From fancy to free, activities cultural and natural. We can’t wait to see where to add to our travel to-do lists next!
We’re still missing much of the map, so if you’ve got posts about South America, Africa, South Korea or the lesser known Oceania, we’d love to see them. Send us somewhere far away. Thank you again to everyone who has linked, commented, shared and engaged this year. It’s been fantastisk getting to know you!
And cheers to these bloggers whose posts piqued me last week. Here are my favorites…
