SHARING TRAVEL STORIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Have you caught it? World Cup fever? It is a serious affliction in our house right now. Helps that the local Team Denmark, who play right down the street from our apartment in Copenhagen when not in Russia, are advancing to the next round. We are red, we are white, we are Danish dynamite! While their recent performances may have been more like a sparkler, it has been very fun to watch with crowds of red at the stadium and Tivoli Gardens Amusement Park. I also love the friendly chiding from friends and fellow bloggers supporting their own favorite teams around the world. I’m looking at you fellow Faraway Files host Katy of Untold Morsels. Sorry about your Socceroos. *wink, wink.

FAVORITES FROM FARAWAY FILES #82

What a great collection of travel posts our travel blog community offered last week. If you missed, check them out here. It was difficult to choose, so I’m sharing five of my faves this week. Congrats to the following Faraway Files community bloggers:

Huge hats off to Kathleen from Kat Pegi Mana: Where is Kat Going? blog for this beautiful post about positive impact travel in Nepal. Getting off the beaten path and immersing in village life at a homestay empowers local women and creates lasting connections for the traveler. This is what the UN’s Tourism for Development Goals are all about. Travel. Enjoy. Respect.

I love how Insider Families was written from the Grandmother’s perspective! Multi-generational travel is a wonderful thing. And the Meow Wolf Art Installation in Santa Fe, New Mexico looks a brilliant and interesting way to get everyone in the family engaged.

Rhonda Albom of Albom Adventures took us on a self-drive exploration of the Great Ocean Road in Australia. If you don’t know anything about the Great Ocean Road in Australia, do yourself a favor and click on the link and lust along this gorgeous drive. Great tips and gratuitous wild koala photos free of charge. Thanks Rhonda!

Like a Game of Thrones legend wrapped up in roses, I loved the look of beautiful Valsaintes Abbey in France shared by Provence local Vaucluse Dreamer. With dragons asleep in the stones, fertility rituals and winter solstice sunbeams in the chapel, this place has some seriously good juju. And is beautiful to boot.

Women Who Wander is a wonderful ongoing blog series by Chiera of Young and Undecided. This past week she shared the story of fellow traveler, Cherene who hiked the whole Inca Trail in her 40’s. Inspiring and funny, it is clear that this path is not all sunshine and rainbows. But at least one rainbow. AND Machu Picchu.

This week I’m sharing a unique art experience myself. Step down inside the old water reservoir atop the Frederiksberg neighborhood of Copenhagen. The Cisterns offer an interactive art installation that invites viewers to engage and help change the art. Now it’s your turn. We’d love you to link up and lead us somewhere new. Where to this week? Link up open now!

FARAWAY FILES TRAVEL BLOG COMMUNITY LINKUP #83
WANT TO JOIN IN?

Jump in! The water is fine! Faraway Files is a creative community of travel bloggers who inspire, engage and share each other’s posts. All participating hosts will read and comment on every post that participates in the spirit of the link up. We will also share them on social media too. Each week we’ll choose our favorite posts and highlight them on our blogs and social media channels using #FarawayFiles.

HOW IT WORKS:
  • Link up one travel-related post and add the Faraway Files badge onto the post or your blog (code below) or link back to the hosts.
  • The link-up will go live every Thursday at 8 am UK time (9 am, CET) until midnight on Friday. It will alternate between Fifi + Hop, Hilary Style, Oregon Girl Around the World, Suitcases and Sandcastles, and Untold Morsels. Check Twitter #FarawayFiles to confirm who is hosting each week.
  • Link ups work best if everyone engages so please comment on each of the hosts’ posts and at least two others that take your fancy.
