TRAVEL BLOG COMMUNITY
It was my birthday this weekend! In Denmark you say,
“Tillykke med fødselsdagen!”
– Danish Birthday Congratulations
Congratulations with your birthday! It was lovely. There was singing and kage (cake) of course! And I am grateful for the love from old friends and new. From family here and abroad. For cards and notes and simple pleasures.
And while maybe not a birthday present per se, I am grateful for this growing and engaged collection of bloggers from all corners of the globe today. Last week, we had a broad, diverse and beautiful selection of stories, activities and experiences from far-flung corners of the world. This is a gift to me.
FARAWAY FILES #6 FAVORITES
Here are my favorite gifts from last week, in no particular order. Bumble Bee Mum showed us that all that is fall in Tokyo is not maple. The gorgeous golden Gingko trees that line the boulevards are celebrated as well. They even get their own festival with food and fun.

Faraway Files newcomer Kathleen from Kat Pegi Mana: Where Is Kat Going? took us to Jordan and the ancient cities of Jerash and Amman proving there is more to this beautiful country than Petra. I loved her photographs with ancient ruins juxtaposed against modern Middle Eastern cities.

When you travel do you make time for remembrance? Do you dare visit places with atrocious pasts? The Wandermust Family took on the emotional quotient one must internalize when visiting Kigale, Rwanda. A stay at the Milles des Collines, more familiarly known as Hotel Rwanda and a visit to the Kigale Genocide Memorial Centre were impactful and difficult. They reminded us of the difference a few people can make in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. I am grateful for that reminder.
And because it’s Thanksgiving this week in my from and I’m remembering many shared with family at the gorgeous Oregon Coast – I want to take you to a little bit of my Oregon. I want to take you crabbing. Seriously – I would if I could! Enjoy and cheers to you and yours wherever you are even if you celebrate or not. I’m raising a glass. I am grateful for you.

We’d love you to join us in building a supportive community who will inspire and share each other’s posts. All three hosts will try to read and comment on every post and we’ll share them on social media too. Each week we’ll choose our favourites and highlight them on our blogs and social media channels using #FarawayFiles.
How it works:
- Link up one travel-related post and add the Faraway Files badge onto the post or your blog (code below) or link back to the hosts.
- The link up will go live every Thursday at 8am, UK time (9am, CET) until midnight on Friday. It will alternate between Untold Morsels, Suitcases and Sandcastles and Oregon Girl around the World. This week say hej to Clare over at Suitcases and Sandcastles.
- Link ups work best if everyone shares so please comment on all three of the hosts’ posts and at least one or two others.
- Tweet us your posts (@suitandsand, @UntoldMorsels, @oregongirlworld) using the hashtag #FarawayFiles and we’ll retweet to our followers.
- Share your #swoonworthy travel images on Instagram. Tag @FarawayFiles and #FarawayFiles – we’ll repost our favorites.
- We are posting each week’s links on our Pinterest page for you to follow.
- Find Faraway Files on Facebook. Like us. We’ll like your page. We’re friendly that way.

Tillykke med fødselsdagen to you Erin. Happy belated birthday greetings 🙂
Tusind tak! Thank you very much!
