SHARING TRAVEL STORIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Happy New Year! Godt Nytår from Denmark! We just celebrated our fourth New Year’s Eve in Copenhagen and it was as crazy as ever. Fireworks everywhere. It’s fantastisk. That’s Danish for fantastic. How did you celebrate? Do you do a fancy affair, all glittered and sequined? Or do you enjoy a gourmet dinner? Just a picnic at the beach? Or quiet and cozy? Me? I love the way Danes blow out the old year with a bang. I find it a blast. Pun intended!
I’m not really one for making resolutions but love the turn of the calendar with all its fresh blank-paged inspiration. It can be anything this year. We can go anywhere. I am personally making it my goal for 2018 to focus on sustainable choices at home and when I travel. Simple. Respectful. Responsible. Choices. We all can make positive impacts. In little ways. I’ll be sharing what I’m doing along the way. I’d love to hear what your goals are for this new year!
Faraway Files Favorites Week #58
One simple sustainable travel choice is to look beyond the big tourist destinations and seek out smaller, off the beaten path destinations. Faraway Files is a fabulous place to find some of these. Check out Quimper, Brittany shared by Janet of Falcondale Life, one of my favorite posts from our last linkup. I never knew that I needed to know this adorable little half-timbered town in France. Now I do. And so should you.

Or how about darling Deventer, a day trip away from over-touristed Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Esther from Your Dutch Guide shares seven colorful reasons you should consider checking it out. I’m in for the vintage shops for sure!

And my last 2017 favorite comes from Angie of Changing Pages who offered this winter escape to the Maldives. My depleted Vitamin D stores from winter here in Denmark could use a little dose of those swoon-worthy sea scenes.

This week, I’m sharing why I think that Copenhagen has the Best New Year’s Eve Celebration in the World. Yep. I said it. Gauntlet dropped. Let the battle begin. What do you think?

Happy New Year to you Erin. The Danish celebrations look great. I did a bucket list visit to Edinburgh for Hogmanay, thoroughly recommended. Happy travelling and blogging in 2018. Wilbur.

Thanks for hosting this, Erin. And a very happy new year to you.
Thank you kindly! Welcome to the Faraway Files travel blog community! Cheers from Denmark!
We traveled to Quimper on our first big trip around France looking for a particular pottery. Loved the little town.
It looks so cute! Had never heard of it before. Would love to explore more of that area!
Looks like a great place to spend the New Years although it must be cold. Thanks for hosting.
Not that cold actually! But it is all relative and depends on your definition of cold. Your bigger concern in Copenhagen would be the rain! Cheers from Denmark! Happy New Year!
I don’t know Erin, I thought London did a pretty good job of ringing in the New Year! ha ha! I’ll have to come and see for myself though…
Ha! Battle lines drawn – I love it!
