Faraway Files #56

TRAVEL BLOG COMMUNITY

SHARING TRAVEL STORIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Last week was American Thanksgiving and for the first time in four years, I made the entire traditional meal complete with full turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, green beans, corn casserole, pumpkin AND pecan pie. We invited some Danish-American friends and even watched some American football. And while no one had work off or were out of school, it was lovely to embrace the tradition again.

When you live abroad, it isn’t always easy to recreate those special dishes and rituals that make a holiday feel like home. Especially when the adopted country doesn’t celebrate that day! But we are thankful for this experience of living in Denmark and that I could find everything I needed to complete my recipes this year! I am also truly thankful for this amazing community of inspiring travel writers, bloggers and photographers that share every week with Faraway Files. Cheers to you!

Faraway Files Favorites Week #54

Time to chow down! Hope you’re hungry – my favorites are all tasty treats from around the world. First up, Connie of Connie Consumes shared the stunning architecture and delicious food you should see and taste when visiting the Andalusia region of Spain. I would love to see the gorgeous UNESCO Mosque-Cathedral and try all the tapas, especially this one – tomato soup topped with ham and cheese? Yes please!

Courtney at Adelante Blog shared beautiful photos of her Vietnamese street food tour in Hanoi. From my favorite – pho – to bún cha to coconut coffee, Courtney shares it all. And it all looks amazing!

And while I love me some good street food finds, there is something completely amazing about cooking your own food outdoors over an open fire. Annette from Four Acorns took her little acorns wild camping in a tipi in Ireland where they cooked all of their food outside. I loved doing this as a child and have shared with my own children. Such fun memories!

And finally, because it tis the season, I adored this post about where to find holiday magic in five festive Christmas cities around the world by Rob and Ann from TravelLatte. Visiting Strasbourg, France is high on my Christmas market wish list, but the cookies and chocolates in Germany look fantastisk too!

This week I’m sharing a little Christmas market magic of my own, right here in Copenhagen. In Denmark, we love a good julemarked, especially when it is full of unique Danish design. Even if you can’t come to Copenhagen this season, support your local makers, small businesses and independent entrepreneurs. You’ll feel good that your gifts are sustainably celebrating the season! Cheers from Denmark!
