TIME TO GET OUTSIDE
The Norwegians believe that there is no problem that can’t be solved by going outside. Danes put their babies sleep outside. In all kinds of weather. Sweden created allemansrätten or everyman’s right to roam. Outside. All land is open and available to explore and encourage people to get outside. And you will find all of the Scandi’s with faces to the sun when it is out. It’s good for you. Soak it up.
But what does getting outside mean to you? Is it active? Hiking, biking, skiing, surfing? Is it something that makes your heart pump and adrenaline flow? For some it does. The two go hand in hand. For me, it can. But these experiences are more the exception than the rule.
For me, getting outside is a way to restore balance. Fill the buckets. Right the scales. It is contemplative and rejuvenating. It can be that crazy, balls-out, exciting endorphin rush. Sometimes. But mostly, it’s communing. With nature. Or seriously, it’s as simple as a sit on a bench with a view. Vitamin D. Vitamin me. Outside. I need to do it more.
Clearly, the Faraway Files Travel Blog Community has been getting outside lately. There was a clear theme last week with many posts offering ways to get outside for both the adrenaline junkies and the nature communers. Which are you? I’m a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. Depends on the day. Missed last week’s collection? Check it out here.
FAVORITES WEEK #23
Thank you to everyone who linked up last week, we had a bevy of cool posts. These were my faves. Ali from What Ali Sees takes us on a tour of Yarra Bend Park in Melbourne, Australia. Ali writes and feels strongly about getting her family outside and what a beautiful place to do it! If you missed her post – you have to see the fruit bats! Now that’s an outdoor experience.
Smidge at Love From Scotland always shares epic landscapes of her home. Her last post about hiking around The Cairngorms was stunning. I could definitely get behind communing with that level of nature.
Welcome newcomer Anne of Let Me Be Free blog to the Faraway Files community. She offers some tips for first-time visitors to Bali. I say – let’s go surfing! I tried it last summer, it’s not easy. But a super fun way to be outside trying.
And lastly Dan from Man vs. Globe shared Faraway Files’ first post about Brazil and it was an epic one! Would you dare hang glide over Rio? I so wish I had the nerve to do it, his insider look at the experience makes it look so graceful and serene once you get past the adrenaline required to jump off that platform!
This week I’m taking you outside to explore one of Copenhagen’s icons – Tivoli Gardens Amusement Park. It opens next week! Woot woot! What a fun way to get outside for kids of all ages. And it’s lovely in every season. Been there? Then you know. Haven’t? You have to go. Especially when you come to Copenhagen.

HOW IT WORKS:

- The link up will go live every Thursday at 8 am UK time (9 am, CET) until midnight on Friday. It will alternate between Untold Morsels, Suitcases and Sandcastles, and Oregon Girl around the World.

Awwww thanks Erin for featuring my post on Yarra Bend Park as one of your favourites. It must have been because you’re desperate for sunshine after a long winter, right?
Haha – maybe? Am I that transparent? Also – FRUIT BATS!
We LOVE getting outside – even if it’s just a long tramp through the woods in search of Winnie-the-Pooh! It’s an emotional and physical need for me to get outdoors, to feel the wind in my hair and the sun in my face.
