SHARING TRAVEL STORIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Today is the Thanksgiving holiday in America. Not in Denmark. For the few first years we lived here, we decided to skip it. You don’t get the days off like you do in the States. The parades and football games don’t start until much later here. It was difficult to find all the ingredients for our favorite dishes. My oven was way too small to cook the size turkey I wanted to even if I could find one.

It still is. But we do Thanksgiving. This year, my husband took the day off and my son helped make all the desserts. You should see his pecan pie, it’s gorgeous. Head over to my Instagram feed if you’re curiuos, I posted it there. And while we’ve found pretty good substitutes for the classic recipes over the years, we can’t substitute time with extended family, which is what this holiday was time for when we lived in Oregon.

It’s part of the reason that I decided to make Thanksgiving a big deal here. So later today, our family will share a meal with our friends here and we will give thanks.  I am grateful for this life lived abroad even with the challenges and distance. I am grateful to be able to travel (and VERY excited about plans coming together for next year’s adventures.) I am grateful for the amazing and creative and inspiring people I have met through travel blogging, including this fabulous community. Cheers to you!

Clare from Suitcases and Sandcastles loved these posts last week. If you missed them, pop over and say hej and take a look! I’m down for visiting every one of them.

This week I’m sharing my recent bogshoeing experience in Latvia. What exactly is bogshoeing I can hear you say? You’ll have to come see. It was squishy, damp and different. And I loved it!

FARAWAY FILES TRAVEL BLOG COMMUNITY LINKUP #144

WANT TO JOIN IN?

Jump in! The water is fine! Faraway Files is a creative community of travel bloggers who inspire, engage and share each other’s posts. All participating hosts will read and comment on every post that participates in the spirit of the link-up. We will also share them on social media too. Each week we’ll choose our favorite posts and highlight them on our blogs and social media channels using #FarawayFiles.

HOW IT WORKS:
  • Link up one travel-related post and add the Faraway Files badge onto the post or your blog (code below) or link back to the hosts.
  • The link-up will go live every Thursday at 8 am UK time (9 am, CET) until midnight on Friday. It will alternate between Fifi + Hop, Hilary Style, Oregon Girl Around the World and Suitcases and Sandcastles. Check Twitter #FarawayFiles to confirm who is hosting each week.
  • Link ups work best if everyone engages so please comment on each of the hosts’ posts and at least two others that take your fancy.
