SHARING TRAVEL STORIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Happy Thursday travel people. Or as they call it in Denmark “lille Fredag” – little Friday! But first, coffee. Grab a cup and come link up. It’s time for the Faraway Files travel blog community link share. I wish I could take you to one of my favorite places in Copenhagen for a coffee in person. Until then, I’ll share a bit about them and you pick the place!

I’ve been playing tourist in our own town lately, but am super excited about adventures around the world starting next week. We’re off to the Big Island of Hawaii. Last time we visited I was confined to a wheelchair with a dislocated ankle and no chance of getting the beautiful blue Pacific. I am definitely ready for a redo! Stay tuned. I’ll be sharing more from our trip on my Instagram stories. Find me here @oregongirl_aroundtheworld. Have you been to the Big Island? Would love to hear your favorites. Can’t wait for snorkeling, volcanoes, lush jungle and tuna poke. Cheers from chillier Copenhagen for now.

FAVORITES FROM FARAWAY FILES #114

Thank you to everyone who connected and engaged and linked up last week. Clare from Suitcases and Sandcastles chose these as her favorites – shoutout to the following:

Christine from A Family Day Out took us underground to an abandoned train station in London with hidden treasures. No literally, they hid famous art and artifacts here during the wars. Step back in time and learn a thing or two in this great post.

Have a day in Faro, Portugal? Beth from This Postcard Life shares what to see and how to do it with only 24 hours. Take the boat tour! Take the boat tour. Thanks for the tips Beth!

And last, but not least – Katherine of Bright Lights of America shares a brilliant itinerary for first-time visitors to her home town of San Francisco. If you haven’t been, it’s time to see the city by the bay. Thanks for the insider information Katherine. Cheers from here.

Four years ago, City of Refuge (or Pu’uhonua O Hōnaunau National Historical Park) 40 minutes south of Kona had huge wheeled sand wheelchairs to explore that site. It was a godsend. We rented a wheelchair locally to get me around. I did actually go on snorkeling boat to Captain Cook’s Monument, just enjoyed the view from the boat. They helped me get on and off board. But you have to be able to get up a few stairs (on crutches) then they brought my chair on board. Here is my post from four years ago – take a look. Let me know if you have more questions – happy to answer and try to help. It’s not an ideal situation, but definitely not undoable. https://oregongirlaroundtheworld.com/travel/onsdag-wanderlust-volume-ii-big-island-of-hawaii/
