SEE ONE OF DENMARK’S MOST DARLING VILLAGES IN DRAGØR
Need to escape the hustle? Put aside the bustle. Do yourself a favor and get out of the city for a day. Make it a day date. Or an overnight. Enjoy an authentic Danish village less than a 30-minute drive from the capital Copenhagen. Do you know darling little Dragør? Every time we visit, I can’t believe how close we are to the city. It feels a world away. And while I love it in summer when the warm, shallow water of the sound beckons a swim, Dragør holds its appeal throughout the year.
WHY YOU SHOULD GO
Dragør teems with charm. Stroll the main street. Peruse the shops. Grab a coffee or an ice cream. Enjoy a late lunch while you watch the boats in the harbor. I love wandering the little alleys and cute streets that meander through thatched roofs cottages draped in flowers. In the summer, plan a swim. Take the long dock walk out to the public bath, past the marshy salt flats. The water is clear and warm and shallow with views of the Øresund Bridge and across to Sweden. Life is slower and simple. Soak it in.

Cozy inside during the winter where they offer a special Christmas meal for those who book in advance as well as traditional Danish fare. But even more special in the summer, when music and grill are open on the dock with views of all the boats in the harbor. Fresh seafood and cold rosé outside – sounds like summer in Denmark.
Cold drinks in the summer and warm in the winter. Café Sylten is a little further down the strand from main street Dragør. You may have to drive or ride your bike. There are outside picnic tables and chairs when the weather is nice and a cozy atmosphere inside for their weekend brunch when it isn’t. The kids loved the beach access and digging in the sand right beside the restaurant, while we soaked up the sun in free loungers.

Traditional Danish fare offered with friendly service. We enjoyed our first smørrebrød here – the classic Danish open-faced sandwiches.

I can highly recommend taking a table outside on the walking street in the sunshine if it is out. Little brunch plates to taste are a cozy way to start your Saturday.

Dragør Strand Hotel and Apartments

For our family of five, the well-appointed apartments behind the classic strand hotel are perfect. Right on the harbor and with a full kitchen and washer/dryer – you can explore the village right out your door. They have a fun restaurant and bar with tables right across from the harbor when the weather is nice. Candlelit and charming inside when the awnings go down for the season.
Copenhagen Airport Hotel
Drogdensvej 43, 2791 Dragør, Denmark
I will admit that the name of this hotel is a slight misnomer as it is not really that close to the airport. But it is a great location for Dragør at the edge of the village and close to the fort and public swimming baths. Ask for a room with a balcony facing the harbor for fantastic sunset views. Not fancy, but breakfast is included as are tweetbacks from the resident parrot. We loved the huge open green space out front and side garden for chasing bunnies, bouts of soccer (football) and cartwheel exhibitions.

We haven’t stayed here, but it looks super cool and is set inside the historic fort at the end of the Dragør Strand.

Never mind how difficult it is for your navigation to pronounce, it is much simpler to just enjoy the simple charms and hyggeligt village of darling little Dragør.

Based on your photos Dragor does look absolutely charming! I love the strawberry shot. One of my favourite travel activities is slow, aimless wandering through pretty streets and Dragor seems like a perfect place to do just that. #wanderfulwednesday

We biked there from Copenhagen this time last year. It was far enough to be an adventure, but doable for an inexperienced cyclist. Sitting at the harbor was very lovely. Pronounced draaaaaor!

What a gem of a town! I knew the name sounded familiar but I couldn’t place until you mentioned the airport. I’ve never been there, only ever saw the name on road signs, but it looks like I missed out!
